Use Cases

The CHRONICLE use cases have been developed to point out the interactions between the various actors of the system working together, to cover the specific objectives of the project. The use cases are incentivised from specific business scenarios of interest from certain stakeholders.

USE CASES 1 | User-friendly Performance Evaluation

This group of use cases aims to demonstrate the evolution of traditional, static EPCs to user friendly tools, based on IoT data collected on site for an operational performance evaluation. Two UCs are considered based on the relevant stakeholders; one for building tenants and one for property owners, investors and other professionals.

CHRONICLE’s enhanced performance evaluation will be delivered to the end users through comprehensive UIs which will illustrate a wide range of information depending on the end users’ profile. The multi-dimensional assessment of building performance will include dynamic operational rating in terms of energy, cost indicators, environmental impact and human-centric aspects including actionable recommendations to enhance the building’s efficiency.

USE CASES 2 | Operation monitoring, optimisation and maintenance

This specific group of CHRONICLE uses cases will showcase a wide range of functionalities that compose a powerful tool for facility managers to efficiently monitor the day-to-day operations of their buildings and proactively plan the necessary maintenance activities in a time- and cost-efficient manner. These functionalities will be based on a continuous measurement and verification framework which allow the accurate operation assessment evaluation and forecast, and optimization of the building processes.

USE CASES 3 | Renovation scenarios for enhanced building performance

The group of CHRONICLE use cases referring to building renovation scenarios will demonstrate how the advance tools delivered within the project comprise a powerful decision support tool by performing an LCA analysis and comparison under specified interventions in the building envelope and infrastructure.

For each renovation scenario under the microscope, CHRONICLE’s Renovation Planner & Investment Appraiser will offer a roadmap of the building’s evolution in terms of energy performance, well-being and comfort as well as its potential financial impact. This will allow the stakeholders involved (architects, consumption experts, building owners, ESCOs etc.) to de-risk their investments, reduce the building’s operational expenses by promoting energy efficiency actions, and further reduce its carbon footprint, improve its comfort and provide a proactive maintenance roadmap per renovation scenario.

USE CASES 4 | BIM-based repository acting as a building logbook throughout its lifetime

The use cases comprising this group are related to the demonstration of the CHRONICLE Digital Building Logbook (DBL) and address all stakeholders identified in the project.

The CHRONICLE DBL will act as a systematic, dynamic and secure data management platform which will allow different stakeholders to access building-related data depending on their interest and access level, as well as identify and visualize critical milestones in the building lifetime. Its aim is to increase efficiency, interoperability and trust between multiple services within the building sector.

Each use case under this group will demonstrate the interactions of different stakeholders with the Digital Building Logbook and their respective benefits of this powerful tool.
