Unlocking the Renovation Wave: Deep-renovation solutions developed by EU-funded projects
To achieve 2050 targets, buildings’ energy needs must be reduced massively to improve their energy performance in line with the Energy Efficiency First Principle. To that end, existing buildings need to transform into energy-efficient buildings, with a circular approach and a reduction of whole life-cycle carbon. But they also have to better answer occupants needs and account for social inclusion.
A number of EU funded projects are currently developing and demonstrating solutions for the deep renovation of buildings, to unlock the EU Renovation Wave. They develop different types of innovative renovation packages, circular and digitalised approaches, as well as novel business models and marketplaces.
This workshop, hosted by NEBULA, gives you the opportunity to meet 7 of those projects: REHOUSE, FORTESIE, CHRONICLE, EBENTO, SMARTeeSTORY, INPERSO and MULTICARE.
They will present their results and discuss cross-cutting issues such as technical, regulatory and social barriers, business models, and how their innovations have to go beyond energy efficiency and embrace the values of circularity, inclusiveness and aesthetics.
Facilitating the energy transition: policy, finance, training Workshop
EPBD Implementation: Facilitated & enhanced by the projects of the Next Gen EPC cluster
The ongoing projects of the Next Gen EPC cluster, under the leadership of the EPB Center, aim to address the EU-wide transposition and practical implementation challenges of the EPBD Recast during this workshop composed of two sessions of 1.5 hours each.
The workshop will commence with a welcome and introduction by EPB Center, followed by a keynote from DG ENER on ‘Implementing the EPBD Recast’. CINEA’s presentation will then showcase the critical roles of EU projects and the Build Up Portal in facilitating the EPBD Recast implementation, while iEPB will discuss the importance of harmonization and convergence in data models. SmarterEPC will explore the potential of an EU hub for EPB tools to create a level playing field.
The second session will feature lightning talks from several pioneering projects within the Next Gen EPC cluster, including iBRoad2EPC, TIMEPAC, CHRONICLE, SmartLivingEPC, tunES, and EPBD.wise. Each presentation will shed light on specific initiatives and innovative solutions contributing to the EPBD Recast’s objectives. Additionally, these talks will react to the presentations from the iEPB and SmarterEPC projects in Session 1, fostering a dynamic and interconnected discussion on the practical implementation of EPBD Recast.
The sessions will bridge the directive-to-action gap in implementing the EPBD Recast, a cornerstone of EU sustainable energy policy in the building sector, by making salient the already available results and upcoming work of the Next Gen EPC cluster’s projects funded under the EU’s Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and LIFE programmes. Furthermore, this workshop is intended to facilitate and enhance the collaboration among the cluster’s projects, ensuring a cohesive approach to tackling the challenges and achieving the goals of the EPBD Recast.
Lastly, the unique value proposition of the Build Up Portal will be highlighted as a single-entry point for accessing comprehensive EPBD guidance documents and resources. This portal is essential for supporting EU Member States and broader stakeholders with EPBD implementation, fostering EU-wide uniformity of efforts in realizing the EPBD Recast.
The workshop will facilitate a moderated panel discussion with all speakers, ensuring a comprehensive dialogue on the practical steps and collaborative efforts necessary to achieve the EPBD Recast’s ambitions. The workshop will close with remarks on the next steps forward, solidifying the commitment of the Next Gen EPC cluster’s projects to sustainable energy in the EU building sector.
